ORAHOOD, Everly

Everly C. Orahood, 41 of north of Cates was killed about 5:30 o'clock Monday afternoon while helping repair a section of the Nickel Plate Railway washed out by the recent floods a mile east of Cayuga. Orahood, a section hand was loading steel when he was struck by a clamshell and killed instantly. He suffered broken ribs, punctured lung and liver and leg injuries according to the report of the coroner. The body was first taken to the Howard E. Watson Funeral Home in Cayuga and later removed to the Shelby Funeral Home at Covington. Funeral services were held at the Cates Methodist Church on Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock with Rev. John Stevenson officiating. Burial was made in Coal Creek Cemetery. Mr. Orahood was born April 16, 1902 in Fountain County, the son of Pearley and Phoebe Richardson Orahood. On September 8, 1921 he married Estella Allen who survives with six children all at home: Helen, Norma, Geneva, Maurice, Herschel and Arlene. Also surviving are his father, Pearly Orahood of Veedersburg, a brother Mont Orahood of Veedersburg and three sisters: Mrs. Grant Shumaker and Mrs. Manford Summers both of Veedersburg and Mrs. Lee Nash of Harvey.
